Common Questions About Therapy
Have questions? Take a look at our FAQ or reach out anytime.
Finding the right therapist is an important part of your journey. A 15-minute consultation (by phone or video) is a great opportunity to see if it feels like a good fit. You want to work with someone you feel comfortable opening up to, so it can be helpful to come prepared with a few questions.
Some questions you might consider asking include:
- What experience do you have working with my main concerns?
- What can I expect in the first few sessions?
- What therapeutic approaches do you use, and what is that experience like?
- How do clients typically describe working with you?
Most importantly, this is your journey. You deserve to share it with someone you feel safe and supported by. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay—let us know, and we’d be happy to help guide you toward other options.
Your counselling journey is unique, and the pace is entirely up to you. The number and frequency of sessions will depend on your needs and goals.
Many clients notice a difference after about three sessions, with lasting change often seen after ten or more. By working with your therapist to set clear goals, you can create a session schedule that feels comfortable and supportive.
Most people start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions and gradually space them out as progress is made.
At Map Psych our sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.
Psychological services are covered in whole or in part by most insurance providers. Usually you can find your annual coverage for psychological services in the section of your policy that also lists chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapy. The amount covered by your insurance changes by provider and policy. We do not offer direct billing through insurance. After each session, we will provide a receipt, which you can submit to your insurance company if you have coverage.
$235 / 60 minute session for couples and individuals.
$352.50 / 90 minute session for couples and individuals.
Our fees are consistent with the current Psychologists’ Association of Alberta Fee Schedule.
